For CASA, a volunteer-based nonprofit, community members play a vital role in supporting our child advocacy work through their gifts of time, energy, and resources. One of our longtime supporters, Jennifer Alderdice, shares why she values what Douglas County CASA brings to our local community, and how she hopes others will join her in furthering our mission.

How did you learn about CASA and what motivated you to get involved?

I first encountered CASA years ago when I attended their “CASAblanca” fundraising event. A friend of mine was a volunteer advocate at the time, and I was amazed by her dedication to the organization. I then became more deeply involved by serving as the CASA philanthropy liaison in the National Charity League with my daughter. She and I volunteer together on a regular basis and have especially enjoyed our time helping with CASA events and programs.

What is your “why” for supporting CASA?

I support CASA because I believe family is so important to a child’s development and growth. For children who don’t have that kind of support system, CASA does important work to help fill the void. Under the best of circumstances life brings challenges, which are made easier when we help one another — that’s why we must advocate for young members of our community who are in need. I admire CASA’s mission and will support them however I can.

How do you hope community members will engage with CASA to further its mission?

One simple way to help CASA is to lend a hand at an event or become a volunteer advocate — those generous gifts of time make a huge difference for a volunteer-based organization. If you’re in a position to donate, it is important — now more than ever — to support charitable organizations that bring tremendous value to our community. I hope members of  Douglas County will join me in supporting our local CASA!
